Poster: SPOT THE PEA-BRAIN
MOMENTUM EXISTS – KEEP YOUR DISTANCE

This poster challenges the unsafe practice of ”tailgating”….. In this example, scooter riders traveling too close to the vehicle in front of them (even vans behind which they cannot see what is happening ahead – at all)…… This poster is designed to stimulate thought to consider appropriate spacing, to allow a safe stopping distances.

 

This posters relation to momentum is:
* It is safe to loose a moving vehicle’s momentum, by braking, in a controlled manner….. for which you need a safe distance.
* It is unsafe to loose a moving vehicle’s momentum, by slamming into the vehicle in front….. transferring some of your momentum to that vehicle to loose what was your momentum….. for you.

ME01. Momentum is a quantity….. you have ‘none’ or you have ‘some’.
ME02. Momentum is obtained & lost….. you ‘dial it up’ and you ‘dial it down’.
ME03. Momentum is variable….. you change the mass and/or you change the velocity.

For this poster – Spot The Pea-Brain:

Chip in (road users, road officials, designers, social professionals, science & techs, fundraisers & grant application specialists, etc)….. all interested in road safety….. able to perceive potential of concept.

The initial goals (all images) are:
1. To stimulate… Awareness to momentum and its presence on our roads.
2. To stimulate… Discussion and argument (debate) from road users, in response to seeing this image and being aware of the accompanying explanations available (applied in a campaign and for now, found here on this website).

Two questions are asked of this poster:
1. If you knew what momentum was…. would you recognise the poster to be correct?
2. Would you agree, momentum is relevant to road safety?

    You can place any feedback relating to the poster, but these 2 key question points would be useful:

    1. If you knew what momentum was…. would you recognise the poster to be correct?

      Love this one.
      The image is clear and understandable as it is.
      The addition of the momentum information is extraordinary.

      The poster is stimulating for conversation
      The info given with this poster here is well put, very interesting enjoyable and interesting to read and follow, able to learn.

      I would think the poster is OK as is
      I am sure they may then “discuss and argue” the points.
      I am sure “dial it up and down” is worthy of own “spot”
      I would think this would add to road safety
      Very interesting idea

        Thanks Tony. Very helpful.

        Have honed the momentum explainations down to 3 easy parts and have popped a separate category up for reference to them.

        Just tweeking tweeking tweeking….. the 3 parts down as clean and clear (simplfied) as can manage – then will publish.

    This is a great visual. This is great to stimulate discussion on such things as tail gateing and suiable/non-suitable safe distances.
    This visual is great so as to enable and consider “speed n distance” issues.
